The Cell Migration laboratory, recently created in the department of Cell Biology at Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the group. The initial grant is for one year (2000€/month) with a possibility for a two-year extension and the starting date is negotiable. The project is related to work investigating the role of filopodia and other cellular protrusions during cancer progression. Pasi Kankaanpää represented Euro-BioImaging during the summer school that took place on the Finnish archipelago. The summer school organized by NordBioMed took place on the Finnish island of Seili between 11th and 16th of August. The theme of this summer school was computational biomedicine with major focus on the areas of imaging, machine learning, and precision medicine. The summer school was attended by more than 35 participants from Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish universities. Pasi Kankaanpää from Euro-BioImaging had delivered a number of talks featuring topics including Euro-BioImaging mission and organization, the services and imaging technologies provided by the Finnish Euro-BioImaging Node in Finland, and the ethics in image analysis. The location of ELMI 2020 meeting was revealed to be in Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands during this year’s ELMI meeting. ELMI 2020 will take place 9-12 June 2020. ELMI meeting is an annual scientific meeting that connects academics working in the field of light microscopy and manufacturers of microscopy equipment and software. Annually, it is attended by more that 300 participants from the academia and industry and is one of the biggest microscopy events in Europe.
